[bug-gs] Bug report - assertion failure in gs 8.13

This is a bug report.  Files I used to view with Ghostscript 8.11 fail
with 8.12 and 8.13.  I am enclosing a small minimal example produced
by xfig, that fails with:

gs: src/gxccman.c:574: gx_add_cached_char: Assertion `cc->pair == pair' failed.

xfig is version 3.2.4, compiled by gcc 3.3.2; the file is a segment of
line and the letter A in Times-Roman.  Ghostscript 8.11, 8.12 and 8.13
are all built with gcc 3.3.2 on Linux i686-pc-linux-gnu systems
(RedHat 7.3, RedHat 8 and RedHat 9).

I am now unable to perform additional tests, having downgraded all my
cluster (17 computers running Linux) to 8.11 --- we use for our
documentation LaTeX+xfig; and almost all of our files fail with gs
8.13.

I hope that bug report will be useful; thank you for the great job you
are doing for the free software community!
