Error message, only when working with very large files :-

AFPL Ghostscript  ERROR -25 closing the device.

Output is truncated and not readable by Acrobat Reader 5.0

files are confidential (and not mine) so  I won't be able to send 
them privately.  I would like to hack on them to remove the private 
data and yet still reproduce the error - any suggestions for a 
productive approach to this ??

handouta.pdf is 1,701 KB
handoutb.pdf is 799 KB
handout.pdf is 4,238 KB (when it is successfully generated by gs7.05)

The pdf files are made by Windows ps printer drivers (PScript5.dll 
Version 5.2) in combination with gs8.14 and gs7.05

Suggested fix, if any:

my workaround was to revert to gs7.05 :-) (this introduces font 
embedding bugs so I actually have the 2 installed side-by-side)

GNU Ghostscript 7.05 does *not* produce this error with this data.

Other comments:

I don't think this report is complete - I feel I may need to extract 
some info about my VM as to why gs has trouble, but I don't know what 
to look at.  Please send me questions and I will investigate my 
system further.

Is there a possibility I have installed gs8.14 incorrectly?  It is 
working very well with smaller files and with converting ps to pdf 
(via redmon.)
