[bug-gs] fonts not printer with pdf 1.4

hello,

i have come across the following problem using ghostscript 8.14. i have a few pdf files which i merge into one using the following:

	gs -q -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -dSAFER -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sOutputFile=merged.pdf -c save pop -f foo-?.pdf

the foo-?.pdf are all "PDF document, version 1.3". now if i feed gs the options:

	-dCompatibilityLevel=1.2

or,

	-dCompatibilityLevel=1.3

then the resulting merged.pdf looks fine on the screen and prints okay too. however, if i use:

	-dCompatibilityLevel=1.4

then although merged.pdf looks okay on the screen, all the text/fonts fail to print... there are just blank spaces where there should be text.

i tried this on another machine with ghostscript 7.05 and it worked with 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4. has something pertinent changed between ghostscript 7.05 and 8.14?
