Kevin,

Since you have control over the generated PCL I suggest you select the
font and capitalize the last letter of the command.

esc(s1p18v0s -- 'S' terminates the command 's' implies more esc(s ... to
follow.

Instead:
esc(s1p18v0s5T  -- 5T selects Times Roman

-sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sOutputFile=/tmp/output.pdf will generate pdf which
should create smaller emails for you.
