Well the pcl2pdf output is wrong.  The gray pattern that appears in
the background is intended to be a raster pattern.  pcl2pdf converts
this pattern to a to a grayscale color.  We can look at doing
something like this as an option but it will produce incorrect results
in many cases.  

If you print the original pcl file you can see a 300 dpi raster pattern was
the intent of the pcl file.
