I'll let the PCL team look into the 'loop' issue, but I am confused
by your statement:

In src/gserror.h I see:

#define return_error(err) return gs_note_error(err)

I've never seen a compiler that accepts a macro with an incorrect
number of arguments. Please tell us where you see a definition of
return_error with two arguments.
