I've organized the goals/requirements into groups, and tried to address 
all of the points you mentioned (mostly by copying your additional 
bullet points).  Please have a look at the updated version.

I'm sure we'll have plenty of scope for discussion once we get a little 
more into the precise details of interface / architecture.
