Nevertheless,

$ compare gs32.out.ppm gs64.out.ppm  diff.ppm
$ display/eog/gthumb  diff.ppm

$ compare -metrix PSNR gs32.out.ppm gs64.out.ppm  diff.ppm
21.3865

!!!!!

There are huge differences in the Color Wheel.

Note the *.pbm's.
