Summary: Font with user-replaced character is rendered
incorrectly/inconsistently
Product: Ghostscript
Version: 8.61
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Windows XP
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P4
Component: PS Interpreter
AssignedTo: support at artifex.com
ReportedBy: michaln at innotek.de
QAContact: gs-bugs at ghostscript.com
I have a PS file (attached) which replaces a single character (underscore) of an
existing font with a modified version. The idea is to get a shorter underscore
glyph so that two underscores, as in '__inline', are clearly recognizable as two
separate characters.
When viewing the PS file with GhostScript, the character doesn't appear to be
replaced at all. When converting the same file to PDF with ps2pdf, the character
is visibly different, but the entire line of text containing the replacement
underscore is rendered very badly, seemingly rasterized. When the file is
printed on a PostScript printer (Lexmark C750), the result is as expected -
shorter underscore, good looking text.
I'm not sure this is strictly a GS bug. If there is a way to achieve the same
effect in some different way, I can easily modify my PS files, so suggestions
are welcome.
