Capturing some of the IRC messages on this topic:

On the performance issue, Henry discovered "maybe there is something screwy in
my profile but I show a lot of time on the memset on line 228 of gximage1.c when
running 39002wts.pcl"

Looking at this code this is from Igor, rev 8803, (as if the mangled log and
comment language isn't enough to tell). The salient part of the log message is:
"Working on this patch we suspected memory leaks from image enumerators
 with some devices."

The analysis of the leaks detected with the chunk allocator shows that most
of the leaks (1,135,798) are all 'bytes' of size=768. What do you want to bet
that this is the size of an image_enum ?
