The effect of setting and unsetting MAKEOBJDIR=. for BSD make can be duplicated
on fedora linux using "bmake" (the BSD make) instead of GNU make. bmake is
available as an optional install from the standard fedora repository.

I am re-opening because the problem can be reproduced (and possibly fixed) on a
more widely available platform than *BSD . It is still going to be somewhat low
in priority, however. (why was it P2?)
