The difference is shown in the attachment.

The Ghostscript side was generated on Windows using:

gswin32c -r350 fts_15_1517.pdf

Also the entire lower line of text has irregularities in the shading where
Adobe shows a completely smooth shade.

Just an aside, Foxit Reader gets this totally wrong, and SummatraPDF 1.3
is closer to Adobe, but is totally smooth in the top line of text where Adobe
(in that attached screenshot) shows the 'step' in the shading.
