Sorry for my short and insufficient error report.

When executing the GS-call ( Linux )

gs -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -o out.pdf page40.pdf 

then it seems, that the Ghostscript reaches an endless loop. But after a very
long time ( about 10 minutes ), a lot of dump messages are printed on the
screen  and the generated PDF-output in incomplete, most of the text is
missing.
