It seems that Acrobat X afterall doesn't fix this issue. When fonts are marked
as ANSI encoded all is fine, but when Custom Encoding is flagged the spool
files are bloated.
I haven't digged further into this issue lately, since my customer accepted to
generally switch printer language from PCL to PostScript. This decision also
fixed a stupid problem with Citrix PCL drivers at that time, btw., so in my
case we got a win-win as result.
Still, most companies run PCL as printer language, so the problem remains
unsolved - as I see it ...
