Avadhut,

I did some testing with the files that you sent.  A major issue that I see is
that you are using pswrite instead of ps2write to do pdf to ps conversion.  My
testing between pswrite and ps2write with your file shows that ps2write is
almost twice as fast.  In addition, the pswrite device was deprecated some time
ago so I would suggest you move to ps2write and please recheck your
performance.
