Dear Dr. Seberino,
First, please permit me to point out that the gs-code-review mailing
list is intended for those submitting fixes or enhancements to the
Ghostscript sources, not for basic questions or requests for help.
You also sent your message to gs-devel at ghostscript.com which is
intended to be a forum for those discussing development issues
for Ghostscript -- new features being considered, design discussions,
etc.
Your message is rather vague but seems to point out that you are
having problems compiling Ghostscript on an x86 platform. Also
since you mention "kernel" I can infer that you are probably
linux or unix based, not on a Microsoft OS.
Ghostscript can be built on MANY platforms for most O.S.'s using
most commonly available compilers. If you need to build GS, please
read the doc/Make.htm file. When using Ghostscript, you may also
want to read doc/Use.htm. You can start at doc/Readme.htm for a
general guide to the documentation.
The file you mention "arch.h" is built automatically by the make
process in the 'obj' (or 'debugobj') subdirectory. The first
program compiled and linked by make is 'genarch' (genarch.exe on
MS platforms) which when executed will create 'arch.h'.
For future requests for assistance, please be aware that Ghostscript
is free software and comes with no warranty and no support; in general,
we can't answer individual questions about it. The following is some
other generic information that we hope you will find useful.
The Ghostscript home page is http://www.ghostscript.com.
If you are using GNU Ghostscript (5.50 or an earlier version), please post
any questions to the Usenet newsgroup gnu.ghostscript.bug, or, if you cannot
post news from your site, send them as e-mail to bug-ghostscript at prep.ai.mit.edu.
Sending to the e-mail address is equivalent to posting to the newsgroup;
thousands of people will see what you post or send, so we strongly suggest that
you just describe the problem or symptoms, and not post entire test files
(unless they are under 20 lines or so).
If you are using Aladdin Ghostscript (6.0 or later), please post any
questions to the Usenet newsgroup comp.lang.postscript. Many thousands of
people read this newsgroup, which covers general PostScript questions as
well as Ghostscript-specific ones, so again, please keep your messages
concise.
If you do suspect that you have encountered a bug in Ghostscript, or the
build process, please complete the doc/bug-form.htm and email it to the
bug-gs at ghostscript.com address.
Regards,
Ray Johnston
