Hi,
Due to my posts to gs-devel have been blocked by
attached files, here I repost my post 3 days ago,
I removed attached files and uploaded them to web.

I don't have sufficient time to make comprehensive
investigation report, but I think gs-8.x TTF CIDFont
emulator cannot display vertical text, in all versions.
I attached example PostScript file and rasterized
results of several versions.
http://home.hiroshima-u.ac.jp/mpsuzuki/article9.ps
PS file including vertical text.
http://home.hiroshima-u.ac.jp/mpsuzuki/article9_scanned.pdf
Scanned image of Japanese PS printer output (@ 300dpi).

Result by ghostscript 7.07.
http://home.hiroshima-u.ac.jp/mpsuzuki/article9_gs815.png
Result by ESP ghostscript 8.15.1 without CJK patch.
http://home.hiroshima-u.ac.jp/mpsuzuki/article9_gs815+cjk.png
Result by ESP ghostscript 8.15.1 with CJK patch.
http://home.hiroshima-u.ac.jp/mpsuzuki/article9_gs860.png
Result by the latest ghostscript.
Apparently, all punctiuations in results by gs8.x
(without CJK patch) are in horizontal forms.
In addition, the latest gs8 cannot calculate correct
centerline for vertical text, it's worse than vanilla
ESP ghostscript 8.15.1.

mpsuzuki
