I'd like to add here: In order to do that, I suggest to look at the
pdfimages utility that comes with Poppler/Xpdf.

In worst case, however, a PDF page of that document contains not one,
but multi-thousands of separate images which form a nice mosaique that
looks like one image.

The PDF in the URL given, however, extracts fine. The images within
seem to be scanned at exactly 300dpi, if my math is correct here...
