[gs-devel] Question about output raster bit-order

Hello,

I am working with the gdevbit driver in 8.6.3 to learn more about
Ghostscript.

I can't seem to find any information about the organization of the
output raster date for non mod-8 bit-depths, eg. 1, 2, 4, 12. For
example, when rendering 2-bit RGB, how are the bits packed?

contiguous -- RGBRGBRGB/RGBRGBRGB
planar -- RRRGGGBBB/RRRGGGBBB
separate -- RRR/RRR/GGG/GGG/BBB/BBB

What options control the bit organization that Ghostscript generates? Is
it the color encoding functions?

PS - when selecting 5-bits per sample in gdevbit the output raster is
8-bits.

Thank you,
