There may be many reasons. For instance, your PS file may enumerate
fonts, which is much slower now because of the larger number of CMap
files installed.

There may be other reasons and Ghostscript is large enough to make
a blind search for a broken module (in the style of DEC field circus)
quite unproductive.

Please file a bug report at http://bugs.ghostscript.com and attach
a few sample files of different sizes.
