The gs-text-api is for discussion about APIs for handling text within Ghostscript, mainly for drivers. It isn't appropriate to continue this discussion on this mailing list. You are probably more interested in the Ghostscript interpreter API described in doc/API.htm. The first way I would implement your application is to run the Ghostscript executable as a separate process. Have a look at ps2pdf.bat and see how it calls Ghostscript when converting PostScript to PDF, then do a system call from your program. Command line parameters are described in doc/Use.htm. Some additional variables for converting ps to pdf are in doc/ps2pdf.htm. If you really want to call the Ghostscript DLL directly then doc/API.htm is the best place to start. Someone has used the old DLL interface with VB, but I wouldn't recommend doing that. The new interface in doc/API.htm should work with VB, but I am not a VB programmer. There is no example code for this yet. If someone does write example code, I would be pleased to make it available. I doubt you can call the Ghostscript DLL directly from VFP. Ghost-View is an application which is used for viewing post-script and pdf files. Ghost view makes use of the "ghost script" to render text on the screen. From accessibility perspective the text (Document's Text) has to be exported to the AT (Assistive Technologies like Screen Reader, Screen Magnifier) which will make use of it to replicate the same to user (A screen reader will make use of the text to read out them to the disabled user). Since Ghost View makes use of "ghost script" to render the text on the screen, I believe there could be some ways of getting back the text (ASCII format) from ghost script. I have found many utilities like "pstotext", "ps2ascii", "prescript" to convert the postscript to text or html. But it will be helpful if there is a way by which the ghost script can be directly tuned to return back the text. PS: Is there any "mode" in which Ghost Script can be operated to return back the text to a file? Please pour in your comments.... Thanks & Regards, Raj. ------=_NextPartTM-000-1218d8d1-25f2-11d6-a942-00b0d0d06be8 Content-Type: text/plain; name="Wipro_Disclaimer.txt" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="Wipro_Disclaimer.txt" **************************Disclaimer************************************ Information contained in this E-MAIL being proprietary to Wipro Limited is 'privileged' and 'confidential' and intended for use only by the individual or entity to which it is addressed. See http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/doc/gsapi.htm That will show you how to do ps->pdf with the Ghostscript DLL. I've got a test DLL that provides an even simpler interface to Ghostscript. It's a single API. I intend to wrap this as an ActiveX control at some stage. 2. The closest is a test ActiveX control I've built. This allows you to set the filename, page size, resolution, page number and then tell it to render the page. It displays as a windowless ActiveX control. The container is responsible for scrolling. Contact me if you want to work with either of my ActiveX controls (either vapourware or test). I need to find a way to transform EPS files on the fly. Given a starting black-on-white logo, I need to be able to change the black to an arbitrary color. Does anyone have any suggestions on this? Command line tricks with gs/ps2ps/etc would be best, but using the API would be an option... Any feedback is much appreciated. - Jeff From texuser74@netscape.net Mon Aug 4 02:12:12 2003 Received: from imo-d02.mx.aol.com (imo-d02.mx.aol.com [205.188.157.34]) by casper.ghostscript.com (8.12.3/8.12.3/Debian-6.4) with ESMTP id h749C7bS005303; Mon, 4 Aug 2003 02:12:12 -0700 Received: from texuser74@netscape.net by imo-d02.mx.aol.com (mail_out_v36_r1.1.) id 5.b.98c86cc (16240); Mon, 4 Aug 2003 05:11:55 -0400 (EDT) Received: from netscape.net (mail.wspc.com.sg [203.211.133.43]) by air-in03.mx.aol.com (v95.12) with ESMTP id MAILININ34-3f703f2e235265; Mon, 04 Aug 2003 05:11:55 -0400 Message-ID: <3F2E23B6.8020608@netscape.net> From: Raj User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.0.2) Gecko/20021120 Netscape/7.01 X-Accept-Language: en-us, en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: ghost@aladdin.com, rjl@aladdin.com Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-AOL-IP: 203.211.133.43 X-Mailer: Unknown (No Version) X-Mailman-Approved-At: Fri, 31 Oct 2003 02:51:47 -0800 Cc: Subject: [gs-text-api] ps2ascii X-BeenThere: gs-text-api@ghostscript.com X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.3 Precedence: list List-Id: Discussion of text API's List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Date: Fri, 31 Oct 2003 10:51:47 -0000 X-Original-Date: Mon, 04 Aug 2003 17:13:26 +0800 X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 31 Oct 2003 10:51:47 -0000 Dear Sir, I am using ghostscript 7.04 with GView 4.3 in Windows 98. When I extract the text from my PS file using the menu "Extract text" option, the output ASCII text file looks fine. But when I try to extract the text from the DOS prompt using the following command line gswin32c -q -dNODISPLAY -dSAFER -dNOBIND -dWRITESYSTEMDICT -dSIMPLE ps2ascii.ps xx.ps -c quit >xx.txt in few places the text gets merged. Particularly at the line ends. One more problem. When I try ps2ascii, I get the following error. Out of environment space Out of environment space Bad command or file name Can someone suggest how to get a proper ascii text from the PS file from DOS command prompt.
