[Gsview] Can't find or read fonts

Sorry for such a newbie question, but I have read the documentation and
tried a thousand things in the last 2 days and I cannot get gsview to
find any fonts.  I am running LFS4.0 linux.  I compiled the ghostview
shared object and gsview with gcc-3.2.  I have the
ghostscript-fonts-std-6.0 installed in
/usr/share/ghostscript/8.00/fonts/ghostscript-fonts-std-6.0, however
they contained no Fontmap.  There is a Fontmap and Fontmap.GS in
/usr/share/ghostscript/8.0/lib.  I copied and renamed Fontmap.GS to the
.../fonts and .../ghostscript-fonts-std-6.0.  I have also set
GS_LIB=/usr/share/ghostscript/8.0/fonts.  Yet no matter what I have
done, I get the same error list from gsview(see below).  I would greatly
appreciate any help.
