PaulBailey | I have a file on windows containing postscript. Unfortunately it is created with a file extension *.userascii. If I rename the extension to *.ps instead, GSView is happy to show it. Can I somehow associate *.userascii files with GSView in Windows? | 13:07.11 |
kens | I'd sugggest right click on the file, select 'open with' and select GSView, then check the 'default' box at bottom left | 13:08.02 |
| SOrry that should be right-click and select open with and then 'choose default program' | 13:08.47 |
PaulBailey | GSView reports "Unknown File Type" and then opens GSView but does not display any document | 13:08.54 |
kens | And if you open it with GSView it works ? Don't know then. GSView prior to version 6 is Ghostsgum Software, not us | 13:09.42 |
PaulBailey | If I open the *.userascii file with GSView it fails with the same error. However, if I rename the file to *.ps, GSView works perfectly. | 13:10.17 |
| This is GSView 6.0 | 13:10.32 |
kens | Ah, then you want Michael, who isn't here yet | 13:10.45 |
PaulBailey | OK. Any idea when I should check back? | 13:11.08 |
kens | Stick around for a couple of hours, and he'll be here. | 13:11.16 |
PaulBailey | OK. Thanks. | 13:11.34 |
mvrhel_laptop | PaulBailey: So right now GSView 6.0 decides the file type based upon the extension. I am going to try to add some logic to best guess a file type in case the file extension is not a known type. This will hopefully be in the next month or two as I am going to be adding several new features. | 15:12.55 |
PaulBailey | Thanks. That sounds good. I don't see an easy way to identify a PS file from the specification(s), but maybe a user assertion (stored in the preferences) that "this file type is postscript" might be a potential solution? | 15:25.14 |
kens | PostScript files usually (not guaranteed, but quite reliable) begin with %! | 15:25.57 |
PaulBailey | The one I'm looking at right now has "%!PS-Adobe-3.0" at line 9. Lines previous to that start with @PJL and appear to be assignments. If I can help, let me know. | 15:36.19 |
kens | PJL is another matter, I mentioed tht to Michael too | 15:36.33 |
| If it has PJL then you look for ENTER LANGUAGE=POSTSCRIPT | 15:36.45 |
PaulBailey | Yup. That exists on line 8. | 15:37.25 |
kens | Menas the printer driver was for a PCL/PostScript printer and the PJL is used to select the language | 15:37.59 |
sshbio | Hi there! Any mupdf dev around? | 21:05.06 |

mylar | Hi, I have a PDF that was created by PaperStream Capture, and says it has no security, but will not allow document assembly. Is there a bit I can flip to enable this? | 22:47.26 |
