kens | heeen, as you have discovered, Ghostscript's pdfwrite device does not, in general, turn fonts into bitmaps. Howe ver, if your input PostScript file is already using bitmapped fonts, then it can't turn them back into scalable vectors. As always in these cases, there isn't much we can say without seeing an example. | 07:04.50 |
heeen | I discovered a crash in gs when feeding it files printed using osx | 07:09.33 |
kens | THen please open a bug report, ideally have a go with the latest code first though | 07:09.50 |
heeen | Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. | 07:09.55 |

| also crashes on my ARM build | 07:10.23 |
kens | stack trace isn't helpful I'm afraid, we will need the file and command line, and the SHA of the version you are using | 07:10.26 |
heeen | http://heeen.de/d00039-001 is the file | 07:12.36 |
| its pretty big but it also crashes on smaller ones | 07:12.48 |
kens | Please open a bug report and attch the file to it | 07:12.53 |
| If you haev a smaller file that would be best | 07:13.05 |
heeen | gs -dCompatibilityLevel=1.2 -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -dSAFER -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sOutputFile="13MAGNUS_Reawakens_Rules_Unveiled-job_39.pdf" -dAutoRotatePages=/PageByPage -dAutoFilterColorImages=false -dColorImageFilter=/FlateEncode -dPDFSETTINGS=/prepress -c .setpdfwrite -f d00039-001 | 07:13.14 |
kens | heeen please open a bug report at https://bugs.ghostscript.com | 07:13.34 |
| heeen, thanks for the report, I'm going out shortly but I'll get to it later | 08:17.31 |
heeen | kens: the crash disappears if you increase the compatibility level from 1.2 to 1.4 | 09:02.32 |
kens | Well, your command line is bit awkward | 09:02.57 |
heeen | which is the default in cups-pdf but is overridden from the ppd | 09:02.57 |
kens | Is there a reason for using 1.2 ? | 09:03.34 |
heeen | no | 09:03.43 |
| not for me anyways | 09:03.52 |
kens | Then I'd suggest you don't :-) | 09:03.53 |
heeen | doctor: it hurts when I do this | 09:04.04 |
| uh | 09:04.10 |
| nevermind | 09:04.14 |
kens | PDF->PDF conversion where the source has transparency will be rendered to a bitmap if the comptibilty level is less than 1.4 | 09:04.21 |
| I agree it shoudln't crash, and I'll sort that, but 1.2 is well ancient | 09:05.03 |
| Note that your changes to colorImageFIlter etc will have no effect | 09:05.33 |
| THey are overridden by the fact that PDFSETTINGS later changes those | 09:05.49 |
| heeen it looks like your problem has already been fixed | 09:07.25 |
| The 9.21 release works for me without this problem | 09:07.49 |
heeen | ok cool | 09:07.55 |
| thanks | 09:07.58 |
kens | NP | 09:10.44 |
