kens heeen, as you have discovered, Ghostscript's pdfwrite device does not, in general, turn fonts into bitmaps. Howe ver, if your input PostScript file is already using bitmapped fonts, then it can't turn them back into scalable vectors. As always in these cases, there isn't much we can say without seeing an example.07:04.50
heeen I discovered a crash in gs when feeding it files printed using osx07:09.33
kens THen please open a bug report, ideally have a go with the latest code first though07:09.50
heeen Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.07:09.55
  0x00007ffff6fc7540 in gs_color_space_num_components () from /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgs.so.907:09.57
  (gdb) bt07:10.00
  #0 0x00007ffff6fc7540 in gs_color_space_num_components () from /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgs.so.907:10.02
  #1 0x00007ffff6eddadd in psdf_setup_image_colors_filter () from /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgs.so.907:10.03
also crashes on my ARM build07:10.23
kens stack trace isn't helpful I'm afraid, we will need the file and command line, and the SHA of the version you are using07:10.26
heeen http://heeen.de/d00039-001 is the file07:12.36
its pretty big but it also crashes on smaller ones07:12.48
kens Please open a bug report and attch the file to it07:12.53
If you haev a smaller file that would be best07:13.05
heeen gs -dCompatibilityLevel=1.2 -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -dSAFER -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sOutputFile="13MAGNUS_Reawakens_Rules_Unveiled-job_39.pdf" -dAutoRotatePages=/PageByPage -dAutoFilterColorImages=false -dColorImageFilter=/FlateEncode -dPDFSETTINGS=/prepress -c .setpdfwrite -f d00039-00107:13.14
kens heeen please open a bug report at https://bugs.ghostscript.com07:13.34
heeen, thanks for the report, I'm going out shortly but I'll get to it later08:17.31
heeen kens: the crash disappears if you increase the compatibility level from 1.2 to 1.409:02.32
kens Well, your command line is bit awkward09:02.57
heeen which is the default in cups-pdf but is overridden from the ppd09:02.57
kens Is there a reason for using 1.2 ?09:03.34
heeen no09:03.43
  not for me anyways09:03.52
kens Then I'd suggest you don't :-)09:03.53
heeen doctor: it hurts when I do this09:04.04
  uh09:04.10
  nevermind09:04.14
kens PDF->PDF conversion where the source has transparency will be rendered to a bitmap if the comptibilty level is less than 1.409:04.21
I agree it shoudln't crash, and I'll sort that, but 1.2 is well ancient09:05.03
Note that your changes to colorImageFIlter etc will have no effect09:05.33
THey are overridden by the fact that PDFSETTINGS later changes those09:05.49
heeen it looks like your problem has already been fixed09:07.25
The 9.21 release works for me without this problem09:07.49
heeen ok cool09:07.55
  thanks09:07.58
kens NP09:10.44
