deekej hello guys, I've put more information about deprecation of libidn (and its replacement with libidn2) here: https://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=69877412:49.28
chrisl: IMHO, you can close this BZ12:49.41
chrisl: however, it would be good if we could discuss the change a little bit more here12:50.08
chrisl deekej: It doesn't sound like there's much to discuss until libprecis arrives12:52.37
deekej chrisl: well, that's the problem - nobody is working on libprecis at the moment, and it doesn't look like there will be anybody starting the work soon12:53.45
chrisl: my colleagues is asking, if Artifex would be interested in getting involved in the development of libprecis when the development starts12:54.28
  ?12:54.34
chrisl: this way you would have some sort of control over development of libprecis, and it could speed things up if you would require it12:55.59
chrisl Not really... it's not something we'd consider central to our purpose, nor do we really have the knowledge (AFAIK). When we have time to contribute to other projects it tends to be things that qualify on those fronts: freetype, libjpeg, openjpeg etc12:57.01
deekej we were discussing for example that it would be good for libprecis to maintain identical API as in libidn, so the applications would have transition easier12:57.04
chrisl: OK, no problem :) 12:57.29
chrisl Note that it wasn't actually an Artifex engineer that did the work with libidn, it was contributed change12:57.57
deekej chrisl: ah, ok :)12:58.34
chrisl stringprep is literally the only thing I know about it, and I only know what I do because I looked into it when you raised bug!12:59.21
deekej chrisl: I'm actually interested to start the work on libprecis, since I need a change in my work, but this might not happen until summer :-/12:59.35
chrisl That's always the problem :-( I owe two lots of work to freetype that I'm struggling to find time to do13:00.18
deekej chrisl: I can relate... :-/ My biggest problem ATM is the stereotype of the work I do (too much manual work and not enough automation, with not enough programming involved), and it's slowly driving me crazy after almost 3 years... :D13:01.43
