voices Robin_Watts: thought so. i can't seem to compile it on macos. is there some additional steps or something?02:48.19
i just curled it, untarred it, ./configured and make-ed (made? maked? you know what i mean)02:51.01
  ./configure works fine03:45.49
this is the tail end of make where it fails: https://pastebin.com/embed_iframe/i6HGDXDq03:46.15
kens voices, I think you should ./sutogen.sh, not ./configure08:12.39
Best time t catch someone who can be more authoritative is office hours in the UK.08:13.21
I don't kow where you got the sources from, the Ghostscript website ?08:13.42
voices kens: irt was hoste on sourceforge09:04.34
kens OK that's probably our code then09:04.45
  I'd try using ./autogen.sh and then amke09:04.56
Actually, given that you've partially built it, you m,ight need to do ./autogen.sh then "make clean" then make09:07.26
voices kens: it seemed official. i first tried using homebrew and macports but neither seem to be working properly or even the current version. thanks, i've never seen that before, force of habit. i'll try it09:08.58
kens Hope it works for you :-)09:09.17
voices cheers mate, me too. do you know anything about pstoedit and/or xfig? that's what this is all in aid of for me. i'm trying to convert vector diagrams (.ps or .pdf or .svg or whatever format) to .fig format so they can be edited and exported back to LaTeX (via TikZ/pgf) .tex format syntax09:16.13
kens A very little about pstoedit (I think I've talked with the maintainer a few times) but nothgin about xfig.09:16.46
voices kens: still same problem09:36.45
kens Hmmm09:36.53
sadly I'm not an expert on teh build system09:37.01
let me boot up an old mac and see if I can reproduce it09:37.14
voices can you remember the SourceForge URL ?09:39.20
Jutt to make sure its the smae as ours09:39.29
Ah, I remember now, we don't use SourceForge any more09:46.25
  voices09:46.32
you either want to go to our website and pick up the tarball from the download page, or go to Github and find our page there09:49.09
Or use Git to clone our repository of course09:49.19
  Here's the Github URL:09:49.57
  https://github.com/ArtifexSoftware/ghostpdl-downloads/releases09:49.57
Robin_Watts voices: Try ./autogen.sh --without-opvp09:50.33
I can never remember the correct configure incantations.09:50.55
basically, it's trying to build in the opvp device, and a library is missing.09:51.13
kens For me on Mountain Lion just ./autogen.sh works09:51.17
Robin_Watts or --without-iconv09:51.31
  --with-iconv=no ? Like I say, I can never remember.09:52.45
kens I'd still suggest getting the proper soruces09:53.03
We've not used SourceForge for some time, I wouldn't trust anything on there09:53.40
Robin_Watts kens: Yeah, can't argue with that.09:54.23
kens Cloning teh Git repo works for me, I'll try our tarball09:55.09
Umm, my ancient Safari won't open teh page because it can't establish a secure connection :-(09:56.13
voices I just pulled the soruce from our web site, untarr/zipped it and then did ./autogen.sh make in the ghostscript-9.27 folder and it built without problem10:08.16
voices Robin_Watts: hmm unrecognized options10:30.59
kens: so which version do i want? the linux version, i suppose?10:31.50
Robin_Watts voices: yes.10:40.16
  --with-libiconv=no10:41.13
Sorry, like I say, crap memory.10:41.30
kens voices, sorry I went out for a swim. You want the source tarball, the Linux binaries won't help you at all.14:09.19
Starting from a fresh install of OSX 10.14 (Mojave) I installed Homebrew, then used that to install autoconf, automake and libtool, then installed gcc.14:09.59
Downloaded the 9.27 source tarball and decompressed it to a convenient location in my home directory (ghostscript-9.27).14:10.29
From that directory, did "./autogen.sh" and then "make"14:10.48
  Ghostscript buitl without complaint.14:10.54
Of course, I hadn't installed the X-Windows development package, so I didn't get X support, so no x11 output window, but Ghostscript deos run14:11.50
