icee kens: thanks for your answer. I am using -dFIXEDMEDIA. I know that there is potential for issue for reinterpreting and re-emitting. But the issue I am having is that -dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS seems able to shrink/crop down pages but not expand them03:27.50
  kens: my command line is03:27.57
  #!/bin/sh03:28.05
  gs \03:28.05
  -dFIXEDMEDIA -dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS=652 -dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS=792 -dFIXEDMEDIA \03:28.05
  -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -dBATCH -dNOPAUSE -sOutputFile=$1-gutter.pdf \03:28.05
  -c "<< /CurrPageNum 1 def /Install { /CurrPageNum CurrPageNum 1 add def03:28.05
  CurrPageNum 2 mod 1 eq {40 0 translate} {} ifelse } bind >> setpagedevice" \03:28.05
  -f "$1.pdf"03:28.06
  The even pages are translated right, but the page isn't expanded by 40pts03:28.32
  (from the original 612 points)03:28.47
  I'm on gs 9.26 as distributed by ubuntu03:29.01
kens icee the DEVICEWIDTHPOINT and DEVICEHEIGTHPOINTS switches set the page exactly, it is as capable of increasing the media size as descreasing it. I can't really comment further without seeing your original PDF file, or one that shows the problem for you.08:45.35
