Ediz Hello00:10.55
ghostbot Welcome to #ghostscript. If you have a question, please ask it, don't ask to ask it. Do be prepared to wait for a reply as devs will check the logs and reply when they come on line. If you are looking for help or infomation about MuPDF, try the new #mupdf channel.00:10.55
Ediz I have a pdf file 49.6 MB, I'm using -dDownsampleColorImages=true -dColorImageResolution=148 to try and reduce the filesize. when the resolution is set to 148 - the file ends up 42MB and when its 147, file goes down to 4.2MB with much more pixellated output00:13.06
my mind can't comprehend why the drastic differences between 147 and 14800:13.28
the 148 resolution is too big at 42MB but 147 resolution is too low quality with acceptable size.00:15.08
  I can't seem to find a middleground00:15.30
also using the /ebook setting is resulting in the same file size00:58.49
Enkidu Ediz: Most likely. Ghostscript downsamples images by whole numbers. Your change in resolution triggers this downsampling.08:12.30
This is just a guess. Check /Width and /Height attributes in your PDF files.08:13.38
kens Ediz, Enkidu the most likely reason is that you rimageas are not downsampled at all in the case of ColorImageResolution being 148, and are whwen its 147. Obviously I cannot tell without seeing your file.08:40.58
Note /Width and Height is insufficient to tell what the resolution of the images are, that only tells you the number of image samples in each dimension. You must also look at teh CTM to determine what area of the media is covered by the image.08:41.53
For example, if I have an image which is 300x300 samples (Width*Height) and I draw it in a 1 inch square on the media, then the resolution is 300 dpi. If I draw the exact same image in a 3 inch square, then the resolution is only 100 dpi.08:42.46
