artifexirc-bot <HakanUsakli> Hello, are there any concerns or unwanted effects with using gswin64c.exe version 9.55 without a windows installer ? I compiled the binary myself from source, I have gswin64c.exe and gsdll64.dll in a subfolder. When I run actions from the command shell, everything seems to be working fine at first look. I guess my question can be rephrased as, does the main dll/exe have any dependencies to any of the files in the /lib/ or /res07:38.27
<KenSharp> The standard Windows build has a ROM file system, so all the resources are built into the executable. The Resource directory is supplied as a convenience; if you want to change any of the files there you need to have them available. Files in lib are not built in, bt are extensions to Ghostscript, not part of it.07:40.08
<KenSharp> If you are planning to distribute Ghostscript (which is what this sounds like) then please read the AGPL carefully. You should ensure that your distribution acknwoledges the use of Ghostscript and that it is licensed under the AGPL07:41.03
<HakanUsakli> Understood. Its inhouse software, no commercial sale. AGPL is respected at all times. The resource directory is is about 16mb on the windows filesystem. The gswin64c.exe is 219kb, the dll is 18.3mb....So am I correct to assume that all Resources are packed into the dll ? Thank you07:44.19
<KenSharp> As I said, the binary uses a ROOM file system. Ghostscript basically **is** the DLL, the executable is a thin wrapper which exercises it via the Ghostscript API.07:45.21

<HakanUsakli> Very neat and convenient. Thank you07:45.56
<RayJohnston> I should mention that during initialization, some environment variables are checked: GS_DLL, GS_LIB, and GS_OPTIONS (see doc/Use.htm). There is something in WinMain that gets and sets a "Text" registry entry and in the stuff that creates the 'display' window (in dwimg.c) that uses "Image" or "Tracer" keys.14:18.14
<RayJohnston> and IIRC, the GS_DLL, GS_LIB and GS_OPTIONS keys will be checked in the registry as well14:20.16
<RayJohnston> the registry keys are in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\GPL Ghostscript\14:25.04
